Dating Time to Go Back to Basics
Sometimes, the person you initially dating with- time to go back to basics- you think is “just a nice person”, can become the person you spend the rest of your life with.
We were reminded of this recently when one of our The Only Social Club success stories from 2010 called us recently. During our conversation, we discovered that the couple we had introduced had married, had been married for some time, and now have a son.
What made the story particularly interesting was the feedback we had received after their first meeting.
She had described him as a nice guy, but felt they would definitely be friends.
We requested feedback as we always do, while he was overseas at the time. We subsequently discovered that they had gone on another date.
And the rest is history.

Don’t Close the Door After One Date
Their story is a wonderful reminder that one meeting doesn’t always reveal the potential of a relationship.
When we facilitate a professional matchmaking introduction, we encourage our members to remain open-minded where there are no obvious reasons not to continue.
The second or third meeting can reveal something completely different. You may discover shared values, chemistry, humour, compatibility, or simply feel more comfortable with one another.
Sometimes people are nervous on a first meeting. Sometimes it takes time to move beyond the initial conversation and really discover another person.
Had this couple closed the door after their first meeting, their relationship, marriage and family may never have happened.
Dating Has Changed
When this couple met in 2010, dating was very different.
There was no constant swiping, endless dating-app conversations, WhatsApp voice notes, or algorithms presenting an almost endless selection of potential partners.
People met face to face.
Today, we hear from many singles experiencing dating-app burnout. They are tired of endless conversations, disappearing matches, superficial connections, ghosting and the disappointment that can come with online dating.
Perhaps it is time to go back to basics.
Meet Face to Face
There is something different about meeting someone in person. You experience their personality, hear their voice, see their expressions and discover how you actually feel in their company.
That cannot always be captured through a profile or a few messages.
We take enormous joy in hearing about the success stories that have resulted from introductions facilitated by The Only Social Club. Interestingly, this particular couple also became part of our referral story. He had originally joined us after being referred by another success story — a married couple who now live in Spain.
One success story led to another.
If dating apps have left you feeling exhausted or disillusioned, perhaps it is time to go back to basics.
Be intentional. Be open-minded. Meet people face to face.
And don’t dismiss someone after one meeting if there is no real reason to do so.
Sometimes the second date is where the real story begins.
