Cheating

In working with singles for over two decades, I have encountered many personal stories—some inspiring, others heartbreaking. A common thread among the more painful experiences is Cheating and infidelity.

The truth no one wants to face

Cheating, whether emotional or physical, can leave deep wounds. It shakes the foundation of trust and often leaves the betrayed partner questioning their worth. The truth is, while we’re all capable of love and connection, some individuals carry behaviours that undermine healthy relationships. Being a good person doesn’t automatically mean one’s choices are always respectful or kind.

What’s especially difficult is how many people who cheat attempt to justify their actions. They blame the other person: “I felt neglected,” “There was no intimacy,” or “I didn’t feel appreciated.” These reasons are used to explain away hurtful behaviour, but cheating is not a solution—it’s a decision. A choice made in secrecy rather than openly addressing what’s lacking in the relationship.

In some cases, there’s no apology at all—just an expectation that the partner should forgive, forget, and continue as if nothing happened.

If you’ve been betrayed, it’s important to pause and focus inward, not to find fault with yourself, but to rediscover your strength. Begin by affirming your worth. Reclaim your self-respect. Learn to approve of yourself again, without shame or self-doubt.

That said, not every story has to end in separation. People can change—if they are genuinely willing to do the work. In situations where both partners want to rebuild, professional support can make all the difference. Working with a relationship coach or therapist allows space for honest conversations, emotional accountability, and practical tools to rebuild trust.

Sometimes, the process leads to healing and reconnection. Other times, it brings clarity that the relationship has run its course. Both outcomes are valid.

The most important thing is choosing what honours your emotional well-being, your boundaries, and your future.
